Real estate Tulum, Art in Sian Kaan by Alejandro Durand

Washed up Project, Bombillas

The Sian Ka’an Biosphere, located just south of Tulum, will host the Washed Up Project on May 9th, an installation created by Alejandro Duran, an artist born in Mexico City who currently lives and works in New York. In his Washed Up Project, the artist addresses the issues of plastic pollution in the oceans around the world, specifically the debris that washes up on the shores of Sian Ka’an, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Alejandro has collected and identified plastic from around the globe that has ended up in Sian Ka’an and has used this debris to create pieces of art, sculptures specific to the Sian Ka’an site.

This installation aims at bringing environmental concerns to the forefront and spread awareness to the people living not only in the Riviera Maya but around the world. Be a part of this amazing event, the art exhibit in Sian Ka’an is a one day event but there are other activities leading up to the show, a beach clean on May 2, educational and art activities with the local community on May 6, the art show on May 9th from 1 – 5 pm at the Xo Ki’in Retreat Center, and on the 11th, a photo exhibit in Punta Allen.
